Effective Transition from Design to Production (Series on Resource Management)
Taking a new product from the design stage to large scale production can cause processes in many companies to break down, contributing to the cost of manufacturing and while increasing negative pressure on the products launch into the market. Effective Transition from Design to Production provides planning techniques and guidelines to lead a proposed new product smoothly through the proposal, design, and manufacturing stages in an efficient and cost-effective way. Organized in sequential steps, the text outlines the seven stages of the production process: proposal, system design, detailed design, manufacturing planning, production readiness, low rate initial production, and production.

Excellent source for PM’s first transition responsibility
5.0 out of 5 stars at Amazon.com
Excellent source for any Program Manager who has been on the design side or the production side, but who has not been a part of both. It is well written and easy to follow. The material is not overloaded with information that might confuse or bog down such a reader. I was handed my first program for which I was responsible for the transition from design to production. This book provided me the overview needed to move forward with an understanding of what was required for a successful transition. There are numerous checklists provided that will enable anyone handed the transition responsibility to make sure they hit all the marks they need to for a successful transition. The author’s experience gives him credibility in the field and as I applied his material in presentations to DoD offices I was spot-on what they were wanting to hear. When it came question time for my portion of presentations on this subject there were few to none. I had answered their potential questions by using this books guidance. There are other books that delve deeper into the subject, but this one is well worth the money and will become part of our company’s library for Program Managers.
